Silicone RTV-2 Condensation-curing

Thu Nov 21 10:33:57 CST 2013

RTV-2 is a two-component Room-Temperature-Vulcanizing (RTV-2) silicone rubber. Depending on its curing mechanism, RTV-2 rubber with tin catalyst is a condensation cure type.

Generally, RTV-2 Silicone Rubber is a kind of two-component material. The RTV-2 silicone rubber is made up of Part A base silicone and Part B curing agent. The Part A base silicone and Part B CA curing agent can cure at room temperature by a condensation reaction, after full cure, it become a cured silicone mold. The silicone mold can be cast the following materials for reproduction: plaster, polyurethane, PU, GRC, cement, resin, polyester, wax etc.

Major Characteristics

1-MC Silicones which vulcanises by condensation is made of two components, a polymer (rubber) and a hardener (catalyst). The mix ratio of both varies between 2 % and 5 % according to the specific product.

2-Vulcanisation creates a volatile product reaction (alcohol) causing the product to contract by between 0.5 % and 0.8 %

3-Alterations to the vulcanisation process can only occur due to a lack of humidity. Relative humidity in the work place should be over 45 %

4-The moulds cannot be used immediately after manufacture. The residual alcohol must be eliminated from the vulcanite before use.

5-Hardness range from 0 to 60 Shore A
