How to Make Soap Using a Silicone Mold

Thu Nov 14 10:21:56 CST 2013

Silicone baking molds make ideal soap molds as well. Silicone flexes easily so the soap is easy to remove from the mold. Silicone molds are also available through soap and candy suppliers, so it is possible to find a mold for every occasion. Use a melt and pour soap base and skin-safe additives to create custom soaps to use or sell. You can use the silicone mold to make matching bath bombs or lotion bars as well.

Instructions

1 Chop the soap into small chunks with the knife. Chunks should be about 1 inch square, but they do not have to be perfect.

2 Place the soap chunks in the glass bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave and cook on "high" for 1 minute. Remove and stir.

3 If the soap is completely liquid, you are ready to proceed. If there are small chunks left, microwave for an additional 30 seconds. Continue to check and heat the soap until it is entirely liquid with no visible chunks.

4 Stir in 2 tbsp. of skin-safe fragrance oil.

5 Place the silicone mold on a flat surface and pour the melted soap into the silicone mold cavities. Let the soap sit until cool, usually 2 to 3 hours. When the soap is cool, flex the mold to remove the finished soaps.
